On August 23rd and 24th Kern Medical, Kern County’s Level II Trauma Center, came out to provide a Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) for our Emergency Department nurses. This was a two-day intensive course that trained nurses on trauma assessment and fundamentals of caring for a trauma patient. Staff were tested on their knowledge of trauma and the pathophysiology of trauma. In addition to a written exam, nurses were also evaluated on a hands-on assessment and priorities or care for a patient.
“Ridgecrest Regional Hospital is part of the State of California’s trauma system and with that responsibility, we want to keep our nurses educated and prepared to receive and care for trauma patients,” said Emergency Department Manager, Breanne Chromi RN. “We had a total of 8 RRH nurses take the class, along with 2 Kern Medical nurses, who were brought to RRH to attend the class as well.”
“Training certification for our nurses is scheduled in-line with the hospital’s mission to be a high-reliability organization that consistently delivers excellent care,” said RRH CEO Jim Suver. “By equipping our employees with quality education, knowledge and resources, we are enhancing their expertise to ensure our patients receive the highest level of medical care.”
“The first few minutes of trauma care are critical to achieving better patient outcomes. The ENA’s Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is widely recognized as the premier course for hospitals and trauma centers worldwide, empowering nurses with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and hands-on training to provide expert care for trauma patients.” – Emergency Nurses Association
