COVID vaccine booster eligibility expanded (10/26/21)

Since the CDC has expanded eligibility, anyone with the Comirnaty/Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen vaccines are now eligible for boosters.

For the third consecutive two-week reporting period in a row, case numbers and positivity rates from RRH tests had increased. As of Monday, the hospital was reporting 152 new COVID cases in the last two weeks and a positivity rate of 17.7 percent.

As numbers creep upward, and are anticipated to continue as cold weather pushes outdoor activities indoors, public health officials are recommending that all eligible individuals get their booster shots.

Those who received both doses of Comirnaty/Pfizer or Moderna are eligible six months after completion of the primary series. CDC is recommending the boosters for people:

  • 65 and older
  • 18 and older and in long term care settings
  • 18 and older and with underlying medical conditions
  • 18 and older who work or live in high-risk settings

Boosters for people those who received the one-dose Janssen primary shot are eligible two months after their first shot. The CDC recommends the booster for anyone 18 and older.

CDC recommendations allow mixing any booster shot with any initial vaccine.

Third doses of mRNA vaccine continue to be recommended for severely immunocompromised person 28 days after the second dose.

Pediatric Pfizer vaccines remain under review by FDA and CDC.

RRH will hold vaccination clinics on Oct. 29 (Moderna) and Nov. 2 (Pfizer/Comirnaty).
