Do you have the healthcare coverage that works for you?

Do you have the healthcare coverage that works for you?

Now that the open enrollment window is open through Dec. 7, 2025, patients have an opportunity to sign up for or change their health insurance plans.

Michelle Whalley, clinic administrator of Rural Health at RRH, said that patients are calling in to ask questions about different levels of coverage. “We encourage our patients to conduct careful research before selecting plans, and are referring anyone with questions to reach out to the California Health Insurance Counseling and Medical Advocacy Program for assistance.”

She acknowledged that many aspects of the costs and coverage of traditional and supplemental healthcare insurance have changed over the years, and new changes are coming in 2026.

To help those navigating these changes, HICAP representatives will be on hand at the Ridgecrest Senior Center on Thursday, Nov. 20, at noon. HICAP can be reached at 661-868-1000.

Most patient inquiries relate to what options include coverage at preferred providers. The experts at HICAP can help determine whether plans will include coverage at local clinics, whether they include out-of-network care for unforeseen medical emergencies, what co-pays and other out-of-pocket costs may be associated with coverage, and other questions.

For anyone wanting more information about changes in Medi-Cal taking effect on Jan. 1, a Health Awareness Fair will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 330 E. Ridgecrest Blvd.
