CDC expands COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Eligibility

Last night the CDC expanded eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots (CDC Expands Eligibility for COVID-19 Booster Shots | CDC Online Newsroom | CDC).
Vaccinating providers may begin administer Moderna and Janssen booster immediately (as well as continuing to offer Comirnaty/Pfizer).
Boosters for people who received a Comirnaty/Pfizer or Moderna primary series (2-doses) may be given 6 months after completion of the primary series and are recommended for the following groups:
- 65+
- 18+ in long term care settings
- 18+ with underlying medical conditions
- 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings
Boosters for people who received a Janssen primary series (1-dose) may be given 2 months after completion of the primary series and are recommended for all persons 18+.
CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
Third doses of mRNA vaccine continue to be recommended for severely immunocompromised person 28 days after the second dose.
